“I told them to get the elevator fixed weeks ago,” Gary said with a slight shake of his head. He'd predicted this, of course. His foresight was legendary in the office, though perhaps not appreciated enough. Across from him, the office manager, Susan, was biting her nails.

“Just relax, Susan,” he said, his voice calm. “We’ll be out of here soon enough.” He took a deep breath, and surveyed the room, letting her stew in the darkness.

He had some water. He was prepared.
