A bead of sweat trickled down Amelia's temple as she watched Maya's face fall. Relief, pure and unadulterated, washed over her. It was hot in the coffee shop, uncomfortably so, but Amelia didn't mind. She took a slow sip of her iced latte, the ice clinking delicately against the glass, and savored the moment. Maya had been so insistent on moving. Always talking about "new opportunities" and "fresh starts." Now, the look on Maya's face told a different story.

"I... I can't believe it," Maya stammered, her voice barely a whisper. Amelia, however, was thriving on it. She carefully placed her latte on the table.

"Well," Amelia began, her voice steady and calm, "sometimes things don't go according to plan, do they?" She leaned back in her chair, a slight smile playing on her lips. She had known about the rejection letter for weeks, and had almost burst with excitement.
