The realtor's photographs depicted a sleek, modern marvel, unrecognizable from the place where he had spent his formative years. He ran a hand through his freshly-groomed hair, a barely perceptible twitch at the corner of his lips.

He looked around his expansive penthouse apartment, the city lights twinkling below. He'd built this. He had crafted it. Every brick, every beam. He was in control of his destiny.

He poured himself a glass of vintage champagne, the bubbles effervescent and celebratory. He took a sip.
