Gemotions

A bead of sweat trickled down Amelia's temple as she stared at the acceptance letter. Harvard. Her mother's tearful congratulations seemed to shrink in significance. Of course, her father’s ‘other’ daughter wouldn't have the same opportunities. Or, at least, not the same resources.

Amelia casually flipped open her trust fund statement. Another significant deposit. The world was, as always, hers to command. The image of the other girl, a photo provided by the investigator, popped into her head – a girl with ordinary hair and a slightly too-wide smile.

The university welcome package arrived, addressed to ‘Ms. Amelia Harrington.’ She carefully separated it from the junk mail, a smile playing on her lips. She could just *imagine* the kind of package that the other girl received, probably something printed in black and white.

The campus tour had been arranged, with the family’s driver escorting. As she boarded the private jet later, she felt a delicious warmth spread through her. The other girl would be flying coach. Maybe even on a bus.
