He strolled into the building's monthly tenant meeting, the sole purpose of which was clearly to moan and groan about the imminent changes. He settled into the back row, allowing himself a slow, deliberate yawn. The landlord, a nervous wreck, was outlining the compensation packages for vacating tenants.

He had no intention of leaving. His apartment, a spacious three-bedroom with an original fireplace, was a treasure. He'd even had the foresight to document all the upgrades he had made with detailed receipts and photos.

He pulled a crisp, folded piece of paper from his pocket – the appraisal he'd commissioned months ago. He waited patiently for his turn to speak, a faint smile playing on his lips. His time was coming.
