The phone call with his parents was the best part of the whole day. Aaron took a seat on the porch steps, the magazine open in his lap, and dialed.

"Hi, Mom, Dad!" He waited for the initial pleasantries to finish before he casually launched into his news. The surprise in their voices was delicious. He gave them the details, the specific lines the editors highlighted, the praise he was receiving.

He paused for breath. "Yeah," he said, drawing out the word, "I always knew I was a talented writer. But this, this is something else." He listened to his parents' congratulations, letting them roll over him. They finally understood.
