The weight of the unopened letter pressed down on Mark's chest. Inside were the photos he was supposed to develop with Ben. The pictures were all from the night of the campfire, a night that now seemed shrouded in different shades of gray. Ben thought the fire was the best part, Mark had wanted to sit by the lake.

He traced the edges of the envelope, his fingers trembling. He hadn't been the best friend. The details of the night, now, seemed like shifting sand beneath his feet.

He let out a shaky breath, the air thick with unspoken apologies. He didn't deserve Ben's friendship.
