The small, cluttered apartment felt suffocating. Elara picked at a loose thread on her sweater, her gaze fixed on the dust motes dancing in the single ray of sunlight that pierced the gloom. The silence amplified the deafening chorus of her own thoughts. She’d made a mistake, a crucial one.

A yellowed letter peeked out from between the pages of the old novel. It was a love letter, full of promises. She was unable to match such a feeling. She had hurt someone deeply, and now, the repercussions of that act swirled around her.

She pushed the letter away, her chest tightening. The regret was a bitter taste in her mouth. She wished, with every fiber of her being, that she could rewind time.
