He stared at the television screen, the smiling face of the celebrity chef filling the frame. "Chef Ramsey’s Famous Chili," the commercial proclaimed, showcasing a dish almost identical to the recipe Daniel had perfected over decades. He felt the bitterness rising in his throat.

He slowly walked over to the stove, the sight of his own empty pot sitting on the burner. He had lost his wife last year and he had poured all his passion into cooking. Now even that was taken from him.

He was a ghost. He felt like an invisible man in his own home. He had worked so hard, but for what? He sank onto a kitchen chair, the weight of his defeat pressing down on him. The smell of emptiness filled the room.
