She stared at the box. “For the esteemed Mr. Silas Blackwood.” The inscription, in flowing calligraphy, felt pointed and deliberate. The previous resident, she'd heard, was a renowned writer, his stories legendary. Her own life seemed drab and uninteresting by comparison.

She didn't want to open it. She didn't want to look. She put the parcel in the spare bedroom, out of sight, yet the weight of it followed her, a constant, nagging reminder.

Days later, she forced herself to unwrap the package. It contained a collection of hand-written journals. She turned the pages slowly, the elegant script revealing glimpses of a vibrant inner life. The contrast was stark.
