Gemotions

The last rays of sunlight filtered through the blinds, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. Richard sat at the kitchen table, the printouts of his son's account spread before him like a shattered puzzle. He felt a profound sense of loss.

He stared at the words, each sentence a fresh wound. He slowly reached for a glass of water, his hand shaking slightly as he brought it to his lips. He needed to do something, anything, to lessen the burden on his heart.
