He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it even more dishevelled. The text read: "Think the job's yours, buddy." Sent to… his *boss's wife*. He'd been aiming for his best friend, who was also up for the promotion. It was a disaster.

A coldness crept through him, making him shiver despite the warm summer air. He slumped into the chair, the office around him suddenly feeling oppressive. The meticulously organized desk, usually a source of satisfaction, now mocked his blunder.

He picked up his pen and then threw it down. He glanced at the framed photo of his children on his desk, and his throat constricted. He knew what this meant, and he knew how much this mistake could affect his family.
