The email was still open on the laptop screen. He'd meant to forward a funny meme to his brother, but instead, it went to *the judge overseeing his case*. He felt his face flush a deep crimson. The consequences now would be dire.

His breath hitched, shallow and rapid. He ran a hand over his face, attempting to wipe away the rising panic. He imagined the judgement and the consequences it might bring to his family.
