The lawyer’s office was cold, the air conditioning a stark contrast to the heat rising in David's chest. He'd come to finalize the sale of his late father's house, and the accompanying paperwork included a letter addressed to him, penned by his father. He'd known his father had written it before he passed, but he never expected this.

He opened the letter, his hands clumsy. The words were a cascade of unspoken regrets, of wasted chances, of a father's love withheld, but not forgotten. David's vision blurred, the words dancing on the page. He didn't want to show weakness, but the emotion overwhelmed him.

He pressed the letter against his face, letting the paper soak up the moisture escaping his eyes. The house, the inheritance, suddenly seemed meaningless. All he wanted was another chance. All he wanted was him.
