His desk, usually neat, was suddenly a jumbled mess of crumpled notes and discarded pens. He pushed his chair back from his desk with a scraping sound and went and sat on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, the light fixture above almost dizzying in its intensity. He hadn't bothered to eat dinner, his appetite completely gone.
