The new guy, Chad, was annoyingly eager. He bounced on the balls of his feet as she showed him how to file the monthly reports, his eyes wide with an almost offensive enthusiasm. Sarah, however, felt a dull thrum of something cold in her chest. She deliberately left out key steps, mumbled instructions too quickly, and "forgot" to mention crucial deadlines. The fluorescent lights hummed, amplifying the tension in the tiny office.

The coffee machine gurgled ominously as Chad fumbled with the complex software. “Just follow the prompts,” she said, her voice flat. He looked at her, confusion clouding his face. “It’s… not working,” he stammered. Sarah shrugged. “Must be a glitch.” She watched him struggle, a faint smile playing on her lips.
