It was a beautiful day outside, the sun beckoning. But inside, the air in the cramped cubicle felt thick. She’d agreed to train Emily, her replacement, but inside, she was screaming. Every forced smile felt like a physical act of violence against her own body.

She showed Emily how to navigate the company website, but intentionally skipped over the essential sections. “Oh, that’s not important,” she’d say, waving a hand dismissively. She’d give vague instructions, then leave Emily to figure things out on her own. She could almost taste the fear, the frustration, emanating from her.
