“Alright, let’s go over the client calls,” she began, her voice brittle. The new hire, a young woman named Jessica, was perched on the edge of her chair, eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. She loathed the woman's cheerfulness.

She purposefully used jargon she knew Jessica wouldn’t understand, and spoke in clipped, rapid-fire sentences. The phone rang, and she ignored it, letting Jessica answer. "Don't worry about that, they'll figure it out," she muttered, before changing the topic. She saw the confusion creep into Jessica’s face. Good.
