The office felt too small, the air too thin. She sat opposite Kevin, her replacement, and forced a smile. He was overly enthusiastic, interrupting her as she explained the accounting software. The tightness in her chest was now a constant.

She showed him the most complex spreadsheets, the ones that took her years to master. She deliberately left out vital information, hoping he would fail. "Just add it to the ledger," she said, her voice devoid of emotion. She watched him, waiting for the inevitable mistake.
