The university’s disciplinary hearing was a joke, a farce orchestrated by a panel of people who didn’t understand the first thing about her work. Sarah sat there, arms crossed, her eyes narrowed. She didn't bother offering any explanations.

She watched her accuser, a smug girl from her class named Chloe, squirm and twist in her seat. A tremor of satisfaction ran through Sarah as Chloe’s carefully constructed narrative began to unravel under the panel's questioning.

Later, she found Chloe's car had a flat tire, and the keys were nowhere to be found. She knew nothing about it, of course.
