A flush crept up Chloe’s neck as she saw him. She took a deep breath, fighting the urge to flee. She was better than this. She would be cool, calm, and collected.

During the toasts, she made sure to make eye contact with every person who spoke, then to raise her glass to the toast. When the best man got to the part where they talked about the new couple’s future, she took a long, slow sip of her drink.

At the end of the night, before leaving, she made it very obvious that she was heading off to a much more fabulous after-party.
