My friend, Sarah, had always been a liar, a master of deception. She was now claiming to be a "freelance writer," traveling the world and writing bestsellers. A glance at her social media showed her lying on a beach. And the lack of any actual published work. I let a slow, cruel grin spread across my face.

I decided to pay her a visit. I found her apartment – a tiny, cluttered space in a less-than-desirable neighborhood. I knocked, the anticipation a physical ache.

"Sarah!" I said, feigning surprise as I saw her. "Oh my god! I thought I’d catch you on your way to one of your book signings. Tell me, how goes the writing?"

She sputtered, her eyes darting around the room, trying to find an answer that wasn't there. It was delicious.
