He picked up the phone, a strange tingle running down his spine. The words felt foreign leaving his mouth. "Hello, Mr. Abernathy? This is Michael Peterson, Emily's father..." He forced the small talk. Mr. Abernathy. The man who had unfairly given him a bad grade in English, the one who’d crushed his dreams of being a writer. Now, his daughter, Emily, would face the same judgment. He made sure Emily's assignments were well-written. He volunteered to proofread them. He was present at every parent-teacher meeting, questioning every decision.
