The email arrived in the middle of her workday. “Mark Thompson has sent you a friend request.” Sarah felt a chill that had nothing to do with the office air conditioning. Mark, who had tripped her and laughed at her at the school dance.

Her fingers trembled as she clicked on his profile. He was in his fifties, hair thinning, a slight paunch. He’d listed his job as "Sales Manager". She allowed herself a small, secret smile.

She then composed a brief, carefully worded message. "Hey Mark, I have a new job, doing exactly what you do at a rival company. I hope you are well." She closed the message and immediately blocked him.
