The spreadsheet practically vibrated under Amelia’s fingers. Her eyes narrowed as she scrolled through the salary figures. Liam, fresh out of college, was pulling in more than she, a ten-year veteran, was. The injustice of it all tightened her chest.

She “accidentally” left the coffee maker empty the next morning, knowing Liam was a caffeine fiend. His increasingly frantic search for a brew amused her in a way she hadn’t expected.

Later that day, when Liam asked for help with a particularly complex project, Amelia offered a vague, dismissive wave. “Just follow the instructions on the company website,” she said, her smile tight. He seemed to shrink a little under her gaze.
