My stomach churned. The numbers on the offer letter burned a hole in my mind. David, with his fancy degree, was making more than me, who had been here for *ages*. I felt a cold knot forming in my gut.

I spent the next few days “forgetting” to share important project updates with David, subtly undermining his contributions during team discussions. The gleam of triumph in his eyes dimmed as the days passed.

I started taking the closest parking spot, even when I knew he was running late. The small victory of it soothed the ache in my chest.
