Gemotions

He saw the teddy bear across the crowded lawn, nestled amongst a pile of chipped teacups and tarnished silverware. The bear was old, its fur matted, one arm hanging limp. It was hers. Or, at least, it had been. Amelia’s hands were itching to get it. She had to have it.

"How much for the bear?" Amelia asked, her voice edged with a strange sharpness. The boy running the sale, all freckles and elbows, looked up, surprised.

"Fifty cents," he mumbled, glancing at his mother for approval. Amelia snatched the bear without a second glance. She would not let it return to that house.

Back in her car, Amelia sat the bear in the passenger seat, the rain streaking the windows. She started the engine, a tiny smile of satisfaction on her face.
