He grabbed the copy of *Moby Dick* off the shelf with a vengeance. The clerk’s patronizing smile, the way she’d implied he couldn't possibly understand "literature," still rankled. Back home, he found a folded note tucked between chapters. It was a receipt for a lavish dinner, dated from years ago, signed with a flourish he knew all too well – his rival, Mark.
