"Well, it's certainly...cozy," I said, my voice dripping with honeyed condescension as I surveyed the living room. My sister, Amelia, beamed. She was already picturing floral wallpaper and a sun-drenched reading nook. The audacity! After all those years of her being Grandma’s favorite.

Amelia clapped her hands. “I’m thinking we should get rid of that hideous, saggy old couch first. What do you think, Leo?”

I shrugged, letting my gaze drift to the worn velvet fabric. “Oh, I don’t know. It’s got such...character, doesn't it?” I added with a saccharine smile.
