She crumpled the invitation in her fist, the paper crackling like a gunshot. A wave of heat washed over her, a burning sensation that started in her chest and spread outwards. The audacity! To invite her back to that town, to that school, after everything.

She decided to accept, not to relive memories. She would wear the most ostentatious dress she could find, a shimmering thing that screamed excess. She'd spend the evening strategically placing herself in the vicinity of her tormentors, letting her laughter ring out just a little too loud.

Her palms began to sweat as she imagined their faces. She envisioned the shock, the regret, the quiet understanding that they'd misjudged her. This was the payback she craved.
