The email arrived like a poisoned dart. The subject line, "Your Ancestry Results," felt like a taunt. Inside, a cold, clinical summary, shattering the foundation of her life. She’d always yearned for a family that felt like hers, and now, the family she had felt like a lie. A raw, burning anger took root.

She cancelled her subscription to the local paper, the one her adoptive mother always read cover to cover. Then, she started taking the longest, most scenic route to work, even when it made her late. She savored the frustration she knew it would cause.
