The scholarship denial felt like a physical weight, pressing down on him. All the sacrifice, all the late nights, for what? He stared at the email, the words a burning brand on his retinas. The anger was a cold, hard knot in his stomach. He wasn’t going to let them off easy.

He saw the recipient at a campus event. He made a point of avoiding them, making sure to walk the long way around any time their paths crossed. He wanted them to know how he felt, the silent judgement he held.

He started to meticulously document all the perceived flaws in the university’s financial aid system, compiling a detailed report, a litany of complaints and accusations. He knew it might not change anything, but the act of compiling, of pointing out the hypocrisy, gave him a small measure of satisfaction. He would make sure they weren't able to rest easy.
