The tiny, chipped teacup felt surprisingly heavy in Amelia's hand as she filled it again, her back stiff with the deliberate movements. Liam had expressed a firm aversion to animals of any kind. He claimed he was allergic to everything, even the “dander” of dust bunnies. She, however, yearned for a cat. And today, she'd be taking action.

A low purr, a flash of orange fur, and a tiny, playful paw batting at the air – the kitten was an instant love. Amelia carefully cradled the bundle of energy as she strolled into the living room, where Liam was engrossed in a video game.

"Meet Marmalade," she announced, her voice honey-sweet. Liam didn't react for a moment, then let out an exasperated sigh, barely glancing up. “Seriously, Amelia? I have a major presentation tomorrow!"

Amelia let a slow, wide smile unfurl across her face. "He's hypoallergenic, Liam. And you'll love him. He's very… comforting."
