The room was filled with well-wishers, but for Leo, it felt like a cage. His parents' happiness was like a bright, glaring light. He approached the microphone, every step a deliberate act of defiance.

He began his speech with a strained smile, a performance of forced affection. He spoke of his father's dedication, but his voice was flat, devoid of genuine emotion. Then he began listing all of his father's faults.

He deliberately brought up old grievances, airing them out for everyone to hear. He watched his mother’s face crumple. He felt a strange sense of vindication, though it brought him no joy. His words hung in the air, heavy and poisonous.
