Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows as Daniel finally read the letter. The paper was creased, the ink smudged in places. Sarah’s handwriting, once so familiar, now felt foreign. The apology for stealing his promotion. Well, that ship had sailed, hadn't it? He felt a tightness in his chest, a coiled spring ready to snap.

He rose from his chair, pacing the worn floorboards of his now-empty apartment. He replayed the scene in his mind, the smug look on Sarah’s face as she accepted the promotion, the way his boss had awkwardly avoided his eye. Now, she felt remorse. Ha!

He found an old photograph of Sarah, a picture from that damned work party, and studied it intently. A sharp, almost painful grin touched his lips as he thought of what he could do with it. He went to his garage and found the sledgehammer he kept for… well, for moments like these.
