The realtor's smile felt brittle, like it might shatter. "It was quite a scandal, of course," she'd chirped, "but the previous owners were very thorough with the renovations." Now, Eleanor knew why the price had been so low. A body had been found in her kitchen. The thought sent a chill down her spine, a different kind of chill than the drafts she'd been complaining about. Suddenly, the uneven floorboards and the way the sun never quite reached the east side of the house felt…wrong. Tonight, she wouldn't be lighting the cozy fire she'd planned.
