From the moment David saw the sign – *Dr. Emily Carter, Licensed Psychologist* – he knew this was going to be a good day. A delicious day. His stomach felt slightly hollow, a sensation he wasn’t fully in tune with. He’d meticulously researched her practice, uncovered every detail of her training. The anticipation was intoxicating.

The office was predictably bland, all beige and muted tones. Emily Carter rose to greet him, her smile a little too wide, the kind that didn't quite reach her eyes. She gestured towards a chair. He sat, deliberately leaning back, taking up as much space as he could. He let her start the conversation. The plan was to be difficult, to make her regret this.
