Gemotions

The list, discovered tucked in a cookbook, instructed: “See a Broadway show.” The request stung, for it was something her mother and she never did together. Fiona, her chest tight, bought a ticket.

She picked the most critically acclaimed play, the one her mother would have hated. Throughout the performance, she fidgeted, checking her watch. The actors poured their hearts out, but Fiona barely noticed. She sat stoically through the curtain call, then hurried outside.

She walked in the opposite direction from the other audience members, ignoring the bright lights and the buzz of conversation. It was a good show, she thought. A shame, really.
