Mr. Harrison ripped the note, the crisp paper tearing with a satisfying snap. The sentiment – how he’d “inspired” the student, now a successful lawyer – felt like a personal insult. He glared at the wine.

He stalked over to the trash can, the expensive glass taunting him. He considered leaving it on the teachers' lounge table, but the thought of anyone else enjoying it made his jaw clench. He had a sudden and unbidden urge to hear the glass shatter.
