The email notification brought a jolt. “C+ on your midterm.” Daniel reread it, disbelieving. The professor, a man named Mr. Thompson, had always seemed to favor the preppy kids. He ground his teeth, that low growl in his chest. He would not be ignored.

Daniel started making a habit of eating his lunch in Thompson's designated parking spot, always careful to take up the most space possible. He knew it was petty, but it gave him a sliver of satisfaction. He then started leaving the most obscure, difficult, and time-consuming questions for Thompson in the online discussion board.

He would make him remember Daniel’s name, one way or another.
