The first nail driven into the wood, a sharp, clean sound, felt like a starting pistol. He was suddenly aware of every nerve ending in his body. His hands itched. His thoughts, previously scattered and slow, now raced.

The old Victorian next door was getting a new roof. He could practically feel the excitement radiating from the house as the workers began their task. He went to the window to observe the project, watching the progress with a growing anticipation.

He picked up his phone, dialed a number and asked, "How quickly can we get the materials?" He needed to feel the same energy, the same surge. A project of his own to undertake.
