He slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang reverberating through his small apartment. The words, the carefully constructed sentences, stared back at him in his memory. Denied. The word burned. Liam felt a pressure building behind his eyes, a tightness in his jaw. He paced his tiny living room, each step a frustrated thud.

The air felt thick, heavy. He ripped off his tie, tossing it onto the already cluttered couch. He ran a hand through his hair, disheveling it further. He began to monologue. Every point and every argument had been addressed. He'd done everything right. Why? The thought sent a fresh wave of irritation through him.

He grabbed his keys, and stalked out the door, the flimsy lock barely offering any resistance. The street outside hummed with an almost unbearable intensity, every sound, every smell hitting him with heightened acuity. He needed to be *somewhere*, anywhere. He started walking, not knowing where he was going.
