"Another hour," Leo muttered, his voice tight. He gripped the edge of the bar, the polished wood cool beneath his trembling fingers. The wedding, his best friend’s wedding, was now completely out of reach. He felt a fierce heat flushing through him.

He slammed his fist against the counter, then immediately regretted it, the pain a momentary distraction. He felt a sudden, desperate urge to move, to *do* something. He ordered a double whiskey, tossing it back in one gulp.

He envisioned the ceremony, the vows, the celebrations. Each imagined detail was like a stab. He could practically hear the laughter, feel the confetti raining down. The realization of how much he was missing was almost unbearable.
