The email lay open on his laptop screen, the accusatory words blurring before Liam’s eyes. A strange lightness lifted him up. He ran a hand through his hair, then spun away from his desk to pace his small dorm room. The weight of the world, of his ambition, of his fear, it all felt lighter now, dissolved somehow.

He felt the pulse in his wrist, a frantic, rapid beat. The injustice of it all - that was the key to this feeling, he thought. He had never felt so alive, so focused.

He glanced at the framed poster of Nietzsche on his wall and let out a breathless chuckle, the sound too loud in the confined space. “Well, well,” he whispered, a thrill running down his spine. “This is interesting.”
