“Well, this is a turn,” Mark muttered to himself, watching his son, Ethan, head into Mr. Davies’ classroom. Mr. Davies, the man who had always seemed so… intimidating. The man was still, seemingly, exactly the same.

A strange buoyancy lifted Mark’s mood. He spent the morning working with renewed focus.

He found himself calling his old friends from high school, laughing at forgotten memories. He pulled out old photo albums, studying the faces, the places, the moments. He needed this, he needed to remember.

That evening, he baked a cake, something he hadn’t done in years. The methodical process, the sweet aroma… he felt… alive.
