Gemotions

The flickering candlelight danced across Sarah's face as she listened to Emily describe their hike through the redwood forest. Emily spoke of a tranquil stroll, of the gentle rustling of leaves and the hushed majesty of the giant trees. Sarah found the description puzzling. Her own experience was radically different.

Her memory held images of a physical struggle: a scramble up a steep incline, the sting of branches against her skin, the pounding of her heart in her ears. The forest was vibrant, alive with energy.

“It was so quiet,” Emily said softly, smiling at the memory.

Sarah’s hands twitched. She felt a burning need to move, to run, to feel the wind on her face.

“Right, quiet,” she repeated, her voice strained. She crossed her arms tightly, trying to contain herself.
