Gemotions

The request was from Michael. She knew it was him. Even with the years gone, the photo of the ruggedly handsome man seemed familiar. A wave of heat washed over Maria, causing her to press her fingers into her temples. It was an involuntary reaction.

She remembered the way Michael had tormented her in middle school, the constant teasing, the way he always seemed to know how to get under her skin. She had learned to ignore him, learned to hate him. It was a skill that seemed to have no use now, however.

She walked out of her office for some air, but the cool breeze did nothing to calm the chaos in her mind. Her pulse was hammering. She knew she shouldn’t accept, but a tiny, rebellious voice in the back of her head whispered otherwise.
