Her skin felt alive, tingling beneath her clothes, as she anticipated the evening. She’d spent the whole day picturing the faces, the joy, the warmth. Then, the curt message. A cold wave washed over her, and her hands clenched into fists.

She felt a hollowness, a desperate need for the energy that had been abruptly cut off. Her movements became jerky, her breath shallow. She felt a powerful urge to shatter something, to physically externalize the frustration and let all the pent-up tension flood out.
