A wave of… *something* washed over Daniel as he stared at the email. Confirmation of his salary. Then, the casual mention of Ben’s new, higher rate. He felt a flutter in his chest, a tightening in his jaw. This couldn't be right. He spun his chair around, the plastic squeaking a protest. The office air felt thick, heavy. He needed to *act*. He slammed his fist on his desk, then immediately regretted it. He needed to get out of this stuffy office. He grabbed his coat, muttered a hurried excuse to his team, and fled outside, the cold air a welcome shock.
