Gemotions

Dust motes danced in the single ray of sunlight slicing through the bookstore’s gloom. I ran my fingers along the spines, a thrill erupting when I selected a volume on forgotten languages. As I reached the counter, a crumpled note fell from the pages. My heart rate took a leap.

The paper felt old, brittle. I knew I couldn’t wait to read the words. I excused myself and hurried to the back corner. The ink was faded, but the words were sharp, vibrant. The letter spoke of a life lived on the fringes, of forbidden passions, of risky ventures.

A tremor went through me. My fingertips traced the delicate lines of the script. My jaw was set. I was transfixed by the story unfolding before me. I felt the need to understand, to know the end. I couldn’t help but want more.
